FIFA World Cup 2022: Benzema out of Qatar 2022 due to thigh injury

France forward and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a thigh injury, the French national team confirmed on Saturday.

“Injured quadriceps of the left thigh, Karim Benzema has been forced to miss the World Cup. The whole team shares Karim’s grief and wishes him a speedy recovery,” wrote Les Blues Twitter.

The Real Madrid striker was recovering from muscle fatigue while playing for Los Blancos and a suspected injury could dent France’s title defense hopes in Qatar 2022.

France have been drawn in Group D alongside Denmark, Australia and Tunisia and will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on November 23.
