France forward and Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a thigh injury, the French national team confirmed on Saturday.
“Injured quadriceps of the left thigh, Karim Benzema has been forced to miss the World Cup. The whole team shares Karim’s grief and wishes him a speedy recovery,” wrote Les Blues Twitter.
L’Equipe reported that earlier, the forward was reported to have left training early with discomfort.
Benzema and Manchester United defender Raphael Varane trained with the French team in Qatar for the first time but the pre-season reportedly came to an abrupt end.

Benzema posted on his Twitter handle, “I have never given up in my life, but tonight I have to think about the team as I always do, so I ask to leave my place for someone who Which can help our group to have a good World Cup.” Instagram page.
The Real Madrid striker was recovering from muscle fatigue while playing for Los Blancos and a suspected injury could dent France’s title defense hopes in Qatar 2022.
France have been drawn in Group D alongside Denmark, Australia and Tunisia and will begin their World Cup campaign against Australia on November 23.
