South Indian cuisine is one of the many cuisines of India, which enjoys a huge fan following not only in the country but across the globe. While Delhi has its own dishes like Butter Chicken and Chole Bhature, the majority of the population is also a fan of Southern flavors and this is reflected in a multitude of South Indian restaurants that are almost always packed. It may come as a surprise to you, but even South Indian food can be presented in different forms and this is what makes visiting different restaurants exciting. If you too want to taste your favorite South Indian in a whole new way, then visit Jambar.
Zamber has three outlets in Delhi-NCR, and I decided to visit their outpost at Ambience Mall in Gurugram. And it was a gastronomical journey to remember. The moment you enter the restaurant, you step into the traditional world of South India with rustic interiors and wooden swings to make the whole experience almost surreal.
I started my meal with Ghee Gunpowder Idli. Soft soft idlis made with gunpowder and other spices taste great. Corn and Curry Leaf Vada also came with a combination of eclectic flavor inherent in the crunchy Vada. While these appetizers were great, the one I liked the most was the Koliwada Prawns. The crunchy fried prawns marinated and cooked in a pool of spices were simply delicious.
Then I went for the classic idli-sambar and medhu vada-sambar combo. The idli was soft and fluffy, the sambar was really tasty and the vada was the best I have ever had. The vada has a distinct crunch which really impressed me. I also ate vegetable upma, and it was a regular dish that we get everywhere. But Onion Rava Dosa really surprised me with its wonderful taste.
Next I added Malabar Avial with Malabar Parotta. While the parotta was far from perfect, I found the avial a bit bitter, but might be considered in its authentic form. And now comes my top recommendation – Appam and Vegetable Stew Combo. Light and airy appams are paired with a creamy stew that makes for a perfect meal. I finished my meal with coconut jaggery halwa and it was very good.
My overall experience at Zamber was really good and I would love to go back again. And if you go here, do not miss to try their Ghee Gunpowder Idli, Koliwada Prawns, Dosa and Sambar, Medhu Vada-Sambhar and Appam with Vegetable Stew.
