“This is the culmination of the evolution that our organization has gone through,” said Twins Executive Vice President Joe Pohlad. “It’s a visual representation of that. We haven’t made any significant changes to our uniforms and numerals in quite some time and we haven’t completely changed our numerals since 1987. It just seemed like the right time.”

The twins were intended to streamline a uniform that incorporated elements from different eras of the franchise. One of the driving forces behind the redesign came from a generational change in how fans are consuming baseball.

“The main way fans engage with their teams is on their cell phones, so we sought to create a uniform and markings that were legible on both physical and digital media,” Wolff said.

The new home jersey features the Twins script on the chest which no longer has drop shadows or multiple colors, now just written in red. Additionally, the Twins feature “victory”, a tradition started when Minnesota won the World Series in 1987. The away uniforms also feature pinstripes, previously only on the alternate home uniforms from 2010–2018.

“The goal is to create something timeless and the measure of success is longevity,” said designer Matthew Wolff, who became a fan of the twins. “The longer a logo lives on, the more successful it is. With uniforms, City Connect is timely and now. But when you talk about a team’s core identity, make them last longer.” should be kept.”

The uniforms also featured a new cap with a white “M” and a red mark to represent the North Star, the symbol now used on all four Minnesota sports teams. The “M” cap marks the first time since 2013 that the team will wear a cap showing the letter.

“There’s such a strong passion around the ‘M’ hat that when we discussed it we talked about bringing it back,” Pohlad said. “But we didn’t want to spoil a good thing. We wanted to build the next thing.”

The home sleeve features a navy Minnesota silhouette with a red North Star in place of Minneapolis and St. Paul.

Additionally, the Twins are introducing a new alternate uniform with a cream base and “Twin Cities” emblazoned across the chest. The cream contrasts with a dark navy blue and all-navy hat to complete the look.

For Wolfe — a lifelong Twins fan — the project represents a dream come true.

“It’s as good as it gets. Hopefully Twins Field likes it, but ask me again in a few years,” Wolff said. “If the Twins win the World Series in a uniform I designed, I’ll die a happy man.”
